Position Overview
Ensuring strong ties between pilotED and its families and neighbors, pilotED’s Family & Community Coordinator will be the head of pilotED’s outreach efforts, which primarily mobilize family, school, and community resources to ensure that pilotED students are able to learn as effectively as possible. Furthermore, they will coordinate with school leaders and community members to organize all school-wide community/civic engagement events throughout the year. The Family & Community Coordinator reports directly to the School Principal.

Roles/Responsibilities
Student & Families
- Tracks daily attendance, contact families regarding chronic absenteeism and help connect families to appropriate resources to improve attendance;
- Manage pilotED’s pantry by maintain adequate supplies (food, clothing, uniforms, toiletries) and communicating with families to connect those in need to resources;
- Contact families through phone calls, email, face-to-face meetings or home visits, when necessary;
- Coordinate with the Special Services Team (social workers, special education teachers, etc.) if any family/home interventions are necessary;
Enrollment & Office Support
- Participate in/help organize evening scholar recruitment fairs and open houses;
- Serves as the community-facing team member for pilotED at civic events and other neighborhood happenings;
- Works alongside the Director of Business & Operations to enroll new students and families each year;
- Organize tours of the school for prospective students and their families;
- Manage the budget for pantry and other initiatives;
- Support the front desk when the Office Manager is on lunch or out for the day.
Community & Events
- Organize all community events, including open houses, BBQs, and community tours;
- Works alongside school administrators to coordinate community surveys, parent job fairs, annual Family Issues Assembly, and associated year-long civic engagement plans;
- Organize communication for all family events e.g. bookfair, food drive, clothing donations and giveaways, school calendar and events, family sporting events, parent and family workshops, etc.;
- Serves as the main point of contact for community members interested in volunteer opportunities and partnerships with pilotED;
- Collaborates with pilotED’s PTA to plan community events and drive school-wide initiatives.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- High School Diploma (Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred);
- 2+ years’ experience working in urban school or comparable environment;
- Understanding of state and federal requirements specific to your position;
- Ability to assess grade level needs in order to plan and organize accordingly;
- Demonstrated experience in the successful communication with people of diverse backgrounds;
- Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with community members;
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
- Strong ability to work with flexibility;
- Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines;
- Experience working in urban environments;
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching strategies to support all learners;
- Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency;
- Language: English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred;
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
