It feels like it was just yesterday that I was in my West Side Chicago classroom teaching 25 students the periodic table and dreaming that one day the education system for students growing up in America’s many corners would be equitable. I was upset with the many ways in which the status quo was living out -- antiquated history textbooks in classrooms and racial or gender biases proliferating in the hearts of our nation’s teachers. There was a deep-seated desire to upend this way of doing “business.” That desire has led pilotED Schools on a path that launched our first campus in Indianapolis, began the publishing of our first social studies standards-aligned identity curriculum, and kickstarted our national identity fellowship. Now, more than ever, the call for an equitable future for students is loud. This is where you come in.
This summer, the pilotED Foundation will get its start. We are looking for passionate, knowledgeable, and on-fire leaders who want to forever change the lives of students, families, and statewide departments of education. On this page you will find a few glimpses of what this will look like and even better yet, the ways in which you can move mountains with us as a potential national board member for the pilotED Foundation.

the vision // grow pilotED's physical footprint of exceptional elementary schools into dozens of new markets in the next decade and get pilotED's identity-based social studies standards & curriculum to be adopted by state departments of education.
time commitment // 1-2 hours per quarter for our 4 board meetings per year. additional meetings may be required depending on strategic priorities.
donation minimum // none. with jacob's relentless fundraising, we want you to bring your expertise, passion, connections, and if a donation makes sense, we will never say no.
beginning of term // july 2021
duties + responsibilities // advance the mission, fulfill legal and fiduciary responsibilities, oversee the chief executive officer, recruit exceptional new board members, oversee strategy in partnership with ceo, and serve on committees.
location // virtual with one mandatory in-person meeting and retreat annually. all accommodations will be covered by the foundation for the annual meeting.
