Position Overview
As the central focus of pilotED’s academic model, identity-development programming will be led by the Identity (ID) Teacher. The ID Teacher will be accountable to upholding and furthering the pilotED mission through implementing, and giving feedback on, pilotED’s Identity curriculum. The ID teacher will also be expected to partner with the school administration, general education teachers, as well as students and their families to ensure the tenets of pilotED’s identity program manifest in the relationships, curriculum, and programming throughout the schools. They will be expected to collaborate with classroom teachers to align culturally relevant topics in core subjects with the identity content. When they are not teaching, the Identity teacher will be expected to support school culture and discipline practices through restorative justice practices and conferencing with students.
The ideal candidate for this position is someone: who has done significant work to understand their own, and diverse others’, identities and backgrounds; who can analyze the intersectional nature of how people experience oppression and privilege; and who seeks to further their own learning and development alongside students and our broader school community to further anti-racism and liberation. They prioritize relationships with students, families, and colleagues, and are driven to further students’ academic achievement through the social and political consciousness-raising innate to pilotED’s identity program.

Roles/Responsibilities
Identity Instruction:
- Effectively plan and deliver daily lessons which align to school wide academic plans and cover all of the identity standards;
- Demonstrate knowledge of standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior;
- Frequently collect and analyze classroom assessment data to monitor student growth and attainment, differentiate content and inform small group instruction;
- Actively engage in pilotED Schools’ collective learning to hone and improve our identity curriculum and programming;
- Create a safe and respectful classroom culture through effective classroom management and positive behavior techniques;
- Work cooperatively with grade-level teammates and administrators to monitor and adjust instructional and behavioral programming;
- Communicates frequently with parents and families about the identity curriculum to get their input on the curriculum and programming, share updates on student growth, and to actively work to address barriers to students’ overall development;
- Participate in weekly observation and coaching sessions;
- Attend and participate in all professional development opportunities;
- Support school community through participation in community events, after-school programming, field trips and/or civic engagement opportunities.
School Leadership:
- The Identity Teacher will collaborate with the Director of Identity Programming and school leaders each quarter to evaluate and adjust the content of the Identity class to best meet the needs of our students.
- Collaborate with pilotED’s CEO to provide necessary data for fundraising.
- Support the leadership team with the planning and implementation of pilotED Camp.
- Support the leadership team to ensure effective implementation of logistics necessary for running a well-functioning school, such as scheduling, test administration, and other details.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- At least two of the following are required: Bachelor’s degree in education or field of
instruction (preferred studies: Sociology, Psychology, Human Behavior, Political Science) , 2+ years of full-time teaching experience, and/or standard teaching certification; - Ability to attend annual summer off-site professional development;
- Understanding of state and federal requirements specific to your position;
- Ability to assess grade level needs in order to plan and organize accordingly;
- Demonstrated experience in the successful instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
- Strong ability to work with flexibility;
- Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines;
- Experience working in urban environments;
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching strategies to support all learners;
- Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency;
- Language: English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred;
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
