Recess Coach + School Crossing Guard

Position Overview
As an integral member of the academic support team, the primary responsibility of a Recess Coach & Crossing Guard will be to facilitate games and activities during recess, help transition students to and from classrooms, direct traffic in the mornings arrivals and afternoon dismissals, and provide general support to admin members. This individual will be accountable for enhancing the social-emotional outcomes of students by learning through play, while supporting a safe and respectful climate within the gym or playground. The individual reports directly to the Director of Business & Operations while working closely with other admin members.
Roles/Responsibilities
Non-Instructional Support
Facilitate recess games and activities for all grade levels;
Supervise and monitor students during non-instructional time (recess) and hallway transitions;
Direct traffic and ensure a smooth morning arrival and afternoon dismissal;
Help parents and students cross the street safely during arrivals and dismissals;
Provide support to teachers and administrators wherever support staff is needed (eg. sanitizing);
Attend and participate in all professional development opportunities;
Support school community through participation in community events, after-school programming, field trips and/or civic engagement opportunities.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required;
Experience working with children through play in urban settings;
Understanding of developmental and social-emotional needs of students in a K-8 space;
Ability to attend annual summer off-site professional development;
Understanding of state and federal requirements specific to your position;
Strong oral communication skills;
Strong ability to work with flexibility;
Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines and being on time;
Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
Language: English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred;
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
Must pass all federal and state background checks.
