Position Overview
The primary responsibility of the Science teacher is to effectively instruct students in a manner that supports pilotED’s academic model. The Science teacher will be expected to support the mission of the school through the implementation of rigorous and engaging science instruction, that inspires students to be creative problem-solvers and critical thinkers. The Science Teacher will collaborate with other teachers and building team members to ensure that STEAM concepts and ideas are reflected throughout students’ experience at pilotED. When they are not teaching, the Science teacher will be expected to support teachers and classrooms through small-group instruction, behavioral intervention, and other miscellaneous duties.

Roles/Responsibilities
Instruction:
- Effectively plan and deliver daily lessons which align to school wide academic plans and cover all Indiana/Next Generation Science Standards;
- Demonstrate knowledge of standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior;
- Frequently collect and analyze classroom assessment data to monitor student growth and attainment, differentiate content and inform small group instruction;
- Create a safe and respectful classroom culture through effective classroom management and positive behavior techniques;
- Work cooperatively with teammates and school leadership to monitor and adjust instructional and behavioral programming;
- Communicate frequently with parents about the science instruction;
- Participate in weekly observation and coaching sessions;
- Attend and participate in all professional development opportunities.
- Support school community through participation in community events, after-school programming, field trips and/or civic engagement opportunities.
School Leadership:
- The Science Teacher will collaborate with the Principal and Assistant Principals each quarter to evaluate and adjust the content of the Science Class to best meet the needs of our students.
- Collaborate with and provide the Leadership Team necessary data for academic analysis and fundraising.
- Support the Leadership Team to ensure effective implementation of logistics necessary for running a well-functioning school, such as scheduling, test administration, and other details.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
- At least two of the following are required: Bachelor’s degree in education or field of
instruction (preferred studies: Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Marine Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Ecology, Environmental Science, and Genetics) , 2+ years of full-time teaching experience, and/or Indiana Teaching License; - Ability to attend annual summer professional development;
- Understanding of state and federal requirements specific to your position;
- Ability to assess grade level needs in order to plan and organize accordingly;
- Demonstrated experience in the successful instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;
- Expert-level written and oral communication skills;
- Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
- Strong ability to work with flexibility;
- Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines;
- Experience working in urban environments;
- Strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching strategies to support all learners;
- Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency;
- Language: English proficiency required; bilingual in Spanish preferred;
- Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
